On thursdays we invite you to lectures about architecture. The first one is called Building with Nature-poetic projects. Architects Sami Rintala, Dagur Eggertsson and Ryo Yamada show recent architecture projects and a work in progress which highlights Japanese and Nordic building traditions and bathing culture.

RINTALA EGGERTSSON ARCHITECTS was established in 2007 by the Finnish architect Sami Rintala and the Icelandic architect Dagur Eggertsson. The office bases it’s activities on furniture design, public art projects, architecture and planning. They are currently working on projects in Norway, Iceland, France, Italy, Russia and China.

Sami Rintala (born 1969) has a long merit list after finishing his architect studies in Helsinki Finland 1999 under professor Juhani Pallasmaa. He established architect office Casagrande & Rintala 1998, which produced a series of acknowledged architectural installations around the world until 2003.   Sami Rintala’s work is based on narrative and conceptualism. Resulting work is a layered interpretation of the physical, mental and poetic resources of the site. Important part of Rintala’s work is teaching and lecturing in various art and architecture universities. He is currently professor in AHO Arkitekthögskolen i Oslo and NTNU Trondheim.

Dagur Eggertsson (born 1965) has a professional background from a number of the most prominent offices in Oslo. After his professional degree from the Oslo School of Architecture in 1992, he started his collaboration with architect Vibeke Jenssen, as NOIS architects.  In 1996 he finished a post-professional master’s degree at the Helsinki University of Technology, where he started experimentation with building full scale architectonic objects, under the supervision of Professor Juhani Pallasmaa.  Along with his professional practice, Eggertsson has taught architecture in Norway, Iceland and Sweden.  He is currently a project examinator at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design.

 

Ryo Yamada (1968) is educated as an architect at the Shibaura Institute of Technology in Tokyo in 1993. He has worked at the architecture department of Kajima Design Co, but established his own architect office Ryo Yamada Atelier together with his wife in 2006. He has won numerous awards for his work, such as ar+d Award and American Landscape Design Society and his work has been published in many magazines, both in Japan and Europe. He received a grant from the Japanese Government to live, work and study in Norway, and worked as an architect as well as tought at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design in the period 2003-2006. Since 2007 he is also associate professor at Sapporo City University School of Design, Architectural Design Course.
